According to C.O.P.S, they believe that there is a need to show law enforcement officers that people recognize the difficult careers that have chosen as a public service to protect lives and uphold the law.

This holiday was sparked by the events of 2014 when an officer was involved shooting in Ferguson, Missouri and the violence and negativity that brewed over that event led to C.O.P.S hoping to change that. They discourage the negative attention that police officers have been getting in recent news and hope to turn the image of police officers into a positive one. Because there are over 900,000 law enforcement officers in America, CO.P.S believes it is vital to show them support during times of difficulty, and thus the holiday helps bring awareness to the difficult decisions police officers have to make each day in the best interest of the law and people.

How to celebrate Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

If you want to support your local law enforcement, there are many things you can do. Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement, Send a card of support to your local police department, or share a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media.

If you want to spread the positivity of police officers, then you can ask your kids to write letters to support law enforcement. You can also change your profile picture to show your support for police as well. If you have family members who are police officers, spend time with them by letting them tell you about their experiences as a cop and bond with them.

History Of Hobby Month

Since humans became sentient we have always had hobbies. It started out with smaller hobbies, such as swimming, hunting, and drawing on cave walls. We have always done things to keep ourselves busy during the long days, but where did the word hobby come from?

The origins of the word hobby suggest that initially it was the word given to pursuits that others thought somewhat childish or trivial. However, as early as 1676 Sir Matthew Hale, in Contemplations Moral and Divine, wrote “Almost every person hath some hobby horse or other wherein he prides himself.” He was acknowledging that a “hobby horse” produces a legitimate sense of pride. By the mid-18th century hobbies flourished as working people had more regular hours of work and greater leisure time.

They spent more time to pursue interests that brought them satisfaction. However, there was concern that these working people might not use their leisure time in worthwhile pursuits. The hope of weaning people away from bad habits by the provision of counter-attractions came to the fore in the 1830’s. This has rarely waned since. Initially, the bad habits were perceived to be of a sensual and physical nature and the counter attractions, or perhaps more accurately alternatives, deliberately cultivated rationality and intellect.

All month long, this celebration is one of the easiest things to do. All we have to do, is enjoy our hobbies. Now, there are hundreds of hobbies that people have in this world, so we will add in a few of them as an example of what hobbies there are around the world:

Collecting: Collecting is seeking, locating, acquiring, organizing, cataloging, displaying and storing antiques, and other valuable items that people want to keep in their possession.

Cooking: Cooking is the preparation of foods in a manner to create a dish from different food combinations. It is a great way to learn different cultural dishes as well.

Gardening: Gardening is the care and maintenance of flowers and plants in a row of tilled soil around a home or in a plant pot.

Before Ancient Greece, in prehistoric times, the sea and rivers served as the most raw and original form of a bath. The oldest accountable daily ritual of bathing can be traced to the ancient Indians. They used elaborate practices for personal hygiene with three daily baths and washing. These are recorded in the works called grihya sutras and are in practice today in some communities. As communities formed in the ancient world, public baths became the main form of bathing, largely because many didn’t have access to private bathing facilities. The Great Bath of Mohenjo, daro is one of the earliest public baths in history. Located in Sindh, Pakistan, the bath dates back to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization — one of the three oldest human civilizations, next to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.

“Showers” in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia involved rich people having private rooms in which servants poured cold water out of jugs over them, but the ancient Greeks were really the first to pioneer what we now consider the modern shower. The first showers where water actually flowed through a pipe were originally developed by ancient Greeks. The Romans expanded on this pipe system creating their famous aqueducts that provided indoor plumbing and bath houses with water. These public bathhouses were virtually the first spas, fully equipped with massages, exercise, and entertainment.

By the early twentieth century, personal cleanliness became a greater concern. Growing awareness of germs inspired new advice on bathing to remove “invisible dirt” which caused disease. Meanwhile, industrial production techniques made tubs cheaper, and warm baths became more acceptable as a means of comfort and relaxation.
